Kazon are actually good now??
First Resistance is futile event op1 was held this past sunday and we had the option of either 120 points, or 90/30 and use the blind. I decided on the 90 point blind and although my build went well, and was the only non borg build at the event, and the blind pull was what brought it over the top.
I got the Kazon blind pull. for those that don't know the Kazon blind is a predator class ship, 4 primary attack, 1 agility, 5 hull, 3 shields with a decent maneuver dial. it's got a 180 degree arc and a 90 degree secondary arc, but it's ability is what puts it over the top. When you perform a green maneuver, add +1 attack dice this round.. So, a ship, with 4 primary attack goes up to 5 when I decide to go slow and has a rear arc? YES PLEASE!
What makes it even better is that the upgrades in it, aren't completely terrible! It's weapon slots are usable with the photonic charges being 4 dice at range 1 and places an aux token on you if something hit, and the other weapon being a 4 dice that can be fired out of any arc (perfect for the coming about) is just amazing.
For the next 120 point tournament. I think I will be trying that ship out in a real constructed format.
I also am deciding to go with a more multi ship build with little upgrades people can steal.. because shenanigans from the borg are quite annoying.
I give you.. Kazon and Friends!

The idea is simple, Every ship has at least 5 attack dice, every ship can Scan and Battle sations, and two of the three ships can convert one blank to a hit. the defense lies in multiple targets. Borg missiles seem to wreck almost anything that it touches when it comes to single ship builds (because having something like that that gives aux tokens with no drawback is stupid), and even tho the hull and shield values are low on everything except the fed ship, it's weight of fire. Take the one hit, hope I live, then Unload on them with 6 dice from the E, 6 dice from the Koranak(thanks to the klingon flagship) and 6 dice from the Relora (again, thanks to the flagship and a green maneuver) and, if they target the E with anything, another 6 dice thanks to counter attack! so, maximum output of 24 damage in one turn!
It's also multi faction so Ahab picard will have to choose which one he wants to go after (hoping my opponent chooses fed so he can get counter attacked a lot) and I don't care if boheeka or the breen aid get assimilated.
So, Bring on the Kazon and friends!

After thinking about it and realizing that 3 actions on an E were too many, I switched the flagship to the koranak to activate the breen aid, and added in amat for 3 defense dice and breen aid protection, and added in a re-roll mechanic to the E so that every ship has some ability to manipulate dice.

Damn the torpedos!
Onto some star trek attack wing.
With Resistance op1 coming up, I've come up with a few ships to use. We can either build 120 points out of our own stuff, or do the 90/30 depending on the blinds that we receive. Out of all the configurations and keeping it outside the realm of the bullshit weyoun borg cubes, this one seems to be the funniest, and it has some shenanigans of its own.
I bring you.. DAMN THE TORPEDOS!

The concept is simple, Scan/Target lock, then unload with Fire at will+volley of torpedos, with a tactical station so that the entire shots against two ships are as follows, 6/6/7/9 with the primary and second volley going on their weakest ship and the first volley and the subsequent photon torpedo going on their main ship. Spock will turn all the battle stations into hits for all this massive firepower for dice fixing, and after you've basically unloaded your payload, you have your 6 dice primary attack with counter attack to finish off any ship that's left.
I also have a species aux madness list.

in this one it plays towards the aux madness. Scan activates spock, counter attack, and since i have a history of bumping into my opponent, they get a warp core breach for their troubles.
I'm not sure which one of the two shenanigans I'll be running sunday, or if I'm going with another 120 point secret build that I'm working on.. but they both seem like winners in my book.

Redstone rumble Aftermath, Attack wing lists
So, The 2014 Redstone rumble is now complete and I've had a day to recover. I did not officially play in the rumble due to life events popping up months in advance, but I did help out and was the ringer, which I was only needed for one game over the course of two days.
The overall tournament was great as usual. Everyone I talked to while walking around, handing out score sheets, etc had nothing but good things, and I know they are looking forward to next years rumble.. which, I hope that, barring some drastic life things, I will actually once again be an active player than just a helper, although, I did like not having to deal with any pressure, and all the rules questions I was asked were minor and easily settled. I also learned I can actually run on 2 hours of sleep and not rip anyone's head off :)
The borg collective op is done, with myself placing 3rd overall, (all because during month two I couldn't roll dice), and it will be onto Resistance is Futile in a couple of weeks. We'll be changing things up by having two options to run this block of tournaments. We can either do our 90/30 blind build, or build 120 points straight from our collection. I've been working on a few 120 point builds to playtest in the meantime.
The first month of RIF is basically arena minus the running into the web you die. that in mind, I've come up with a Federation/Dominion list, because borg are dumb and I want to play a REAL faction first, with that in mind.

Total Build SP: 120
The idea is simple. I take the two biggest, baddest ships in each respected fleets, and tear them a new one! With the E I am firing at 10, I will always be firing 5 dice from the 360, Ahab picard picking the faction that my opponent has more points into, hoping to get that Attack pattern omega off, or weakening the shields. It will roll 1 dice for the ship normally, 1 dice for Ahab(vs the chosen foe), 1 dice for Paris, and 1 dice for the Rom flagship that will be near by. 4 dice is nothing to scoff at these days. The Tactical stations will get discarded when I feel the need to push the dice through with Battlestations and boheeka to get a ship down.
The Cruiser is piloted by Damar for two reasons. ONE this is going to be a close quarters fight, I expect mines and secondary weapons out the ying yang, and two, I wanted to use him in an actual fleet as I do not need Dukat in this list with the set up. The Cruiser will be doing a Battle stations, and scan every turn, or using kirk's action to disable my opponents bullshit. and firing 6 dice vs a ship with shields and 7 dice vs a ship without it. Omet converts one blank to a hit from the primary, and the ship itself is rolling 3 defense dice, oh and omet can not be assimilated thanks to amat.
Overall, I am really liking this two ship list. I hope to test it out here in the near future but it's looking good in theory.
Until next time I decide to blog :D

To boldy Cheat.. Aka I don't like to lose!
So, After some time I decided to do some more blogging. sorry for the delay but life has been a little hectic.
Borg OP1, the first of two that I will be attending, was this past sunday. I managed to pull out the tie for second place, and being the top non borg player in the event where 3 out of the 8 people playing were running borg. It was using the blind buy and I managed to pull ship 1 of 3 that I wanted, the Maquis raider. I plan on going into more details on how awesome I think the blind ships are after playing them soon, but for now, Michael eddington is amazing.
So, with the second Borg OP1 coming up in a week, I've decided to try my hands at .... FEDERATION! *waits for my readers to wake up after passing out*
I've been wanting to run feds for a while, but dominion has always been my first love and will always be my go to fleet because I know every trick they can pull and some evil combos that can be triggered. I was also fed up with the fact that Borg are everywhere..
So, I got to thinking, how do you deal with a souped up tactical cube in op1 that can avoid it's borg buddies and assimilate you.. With federation, I came up with a brilliant idea.. CHEAT!
Not cheating per say, but basically taking a 100 point fleet with great synergy to a 90/30 tournament thanks to non other than the Reinforcement sideboard.
First, the list.

U.S.S. Defiant (24)
Christopher Pike (4)
Adm. James T. Kirk (5)
Tuvok (4)
Lojour (1)
Ship SP: 38
Total Build SP: 90
First off, This is Khan... With KIRK.. FROM THE SAME MOVIE! A million nerds head just exploded from seeing that. But, there's a reason for this.
The list is simple. Khan uses voyagers ability to shoot everywhere with a battlestations to pump out the crits, and the moment a cube takes one to the hull, which bypasses their ablative armor by the way thanks to khan's turning battle stations into crits after the defender modifies, it's getting a warp core breach. Pike is the starting captain for the defiant. He makes Tuvok and lojour cheaper. Three out of the 4 cards on the sideboard go on the defiant. Picard goes first, then the doctor, followed by the quantums when I get within range. If my opponent comes at me faster than anticipated, it'll be picard then quantums and save the doctor for when I need to restart the combo again.Defiant is there because it has excellent maneuverability. 2-3 white turns with a 90 degree front and rear can insure the quantum's get to their target.
Picard will be an 11 to ensure his quantums fire first, stripping 7 damage, assuming all hits and battlestations, off say the cube leaving it without hull. Khan will then take some pot shots and either their armor will be eaten up, or they will take a warp core breach to the face, and thanks to boheeka it will almost always do some damage unless the dice gods decide to make me cry. Shroud is there to protect boheeka from being assimilated for a turn if the cube decides to play nasty.
Now, the two tech cards in the list, and the reason why I have Admiral kirk in the list. His fleet action to disable any upgrade of my choosing at range 1 is amazing.. Disabling Ass tubes, Disabling their ablative armor, disabling spock or anything else I don't like will be great, AND the blind ship that I draw can use the action, so if it's on its last legs I can run it into the opponent and disable something with it freeing up the beefier ships to do their normal complement of actions, or just do that even if it isn't on its last leg. Kirk Also CAN NOT be assimilated by ass tubes as he is not a crew, weapon, or tech upgrade. He also can not be stolen by any means as he is a captain, and is another buffer to save my captain if the BTC decides to go assimilation happy thanks to poor positioning on my part.
Speaking of borg and assimilating, here comes my ace in the hole.. Faked messages. It's from the gorn ship, and it is more of a threat than anything. What it does is at the end of the planning phase after all dials are set, I discard it to target a ship outside of 1-3 of the ship using the talent, that ship then ignores its dials and moves a 1 white forward. Meaning, if I'm going against borg and their ship is facing towards the edge or back of the board to do some sliding shenanigains, I can throw them off the board. I can also make sure that if they did a big maneuver to slide in to ass tube me before I have a chance to disable it with Kirk, I can just force them to move a one forward, screwing up their plans. It can go on any of the 3 ships in my fleet too. I can always throw it on the blind ship if it's going to be further back or out of range to do anything. Also, if they are playing with the Transwarp conduit, which guarentees that they will be outside of range 1-3 if you have it on your ship you can almost force them into a spot where they didn't want to be for fear of it.
I'm hoping that this build will be effective as it's a lot more tricks than what I'm used to, but being able to basically Cheat and run 10 more points than my opponent... Great! I mean, I'd feel bad against my non borg opponents, but Fuck the borg. They cheat already with their movement so time to return the favor.

On admirals and the changing meta.
And so, They are here. An unexpected twist for STAW. I'm talking Admirals, like everyones favorite or infamous Cardassian Dukat!James Tiberious Kirk himself also got the admiral treatment, but I'll go over him in a minute.
What are admirals in STAW? They are, for better sense of the word, additional captains for your ship, they do not take up any slots, but you can only assign one admiral to your fleet at any given time and out of faction costs for them are Tripled!! So, if dukat wants to steal Voyager you're paying 8 points for him.. That's almost the cost of a borg upgrade! You can also assign admirals as normal ship captains.
They have the ability called a Fleet action. One ship in lieu of any other normal actions they can take can choose to use the fleet action if they are within range 1-3 of the ship, so flying in formation is beneficial. This can open up a ton of possibilities, For example, say your Rav laerst is in range to use it's dissipator and you want the follow up attack to do a ton of dice. Use the fleet action as your action and your follow up to the dissipator is 5 dice! That's Koranak territory! Pop a flagship and that's 6 dice.. That's one helluva follow up attack when your opponent doesn't have any shields.
They can also protect your captain from things like Communications failure, and when your captain is not on the ship for any reason, they commandeer the ship and take over. In addition, they add +X to the captain skill of the captain of your ship as well as adding an elite talent slot. So, Damar goes from being a 6 to a 7 all because his "old friend" dukat is standing right next to him!
There are only 2 captains at this present time with more on the way. Federation and Dominion are the first to receive these. Admiral kirk gives any federation captain +2 to their captain skill value, so turning new captain spock from a 6 to an 8 or our old friend sisko into an 8, or hell turning picard up to 11!
So, how does this change the meta? Well, with borg being the key I see these as a huge benefit to running the multiple ship builds. With them being technically captains this means they are safe from assimilation tubes, and as a barrier to anything that might try and disable your captain for any reason.
Being able to have your one ship you need get that extra attack dice or in kirks case being able to disable a critical upgrade at range 1 (his fleet action ability) is amazing! You can be a lot more flexable in your list building and you can almost guarantee that action will go off when you need it. it's a nice little tool in the tool box to have.
I think admirals are a great addition to the game and can add to the game tremendously. Having to choose which dukat to use tho, will be an issue as a dominion player.. but, on my federation fleet, I'm always going to be using Admiral kirk instead of TOS kirk just because he's a lot more flexable.

it's time for a battleship where no one expects it!
So, with all this talk about borg and the likes, I've come up with my own little fleet that I'll probably run at this weekend's tholian event, and probably through the arena. It's almost pure faction as I included Valtane and the Cochrane in the list for two reasons, one, this gives the rav a chance to reroll all 3 of the energy dissie dice, or 3/5 torpedo dice, and the cochrane is there to make sure that the battleship does it's quick turn around once per game (which more than likely is only needed once per game as they tend to go by fast)

it's inKHANcevable!
Here's yet another idea I'm having, and this one looks to be even gank proof. Why you might ask? Because even if a ship is hit with a stasis field or something like that, it will still be rolling defense dice and have the hull to take it.

The idea is rather simple. You have the defiant running around with 5 evade dice a turn firing off photons whenever it can, and you have khan in the D firing off quantums if they get behind, the 360 firing if they are out of both arcs, and you have 5 attack dice if they get in short range to stop the torps. The rom ind fuels khan's ability while Joachim lets me pick which crit results I want to put on a ship like, a stunned helmsmen or warp core breach etc. Oh and you have scotty boosting up his attacks. 7 dice quantums *shiver*
I think out of all these fed lists, this is the one I will probably like using the most. Well, until they decide to finally release voyager and I can have some delta quadrant shenanigans vs the borg :)

Dukat Steals a Bird of prey

You Can't See me!
So, In preparation of an upcoming no holds barred tournament, and even tho I expect to see a lot of mines, I've come up with something I find quite hilarious and effective. I call it, the incredible cloaking fleet.

Cloaking Device (4)
Ship SP: 47
Total Build SP: 100
Note: I can replace the antimatter mines with photon's if I wanted to but I prefer the mines due to its 4 dice that cuts right through even all these evade shenanigans I'm pulling off as well as not having to rely on target locks if facing a cloaking fleet.
The fleet idea is simple. Turn 1 Everyone cloaks as well as getting battlestations, evades etc. Turn 2, re enable all the cloaks, and then use sensor echo's from the cloaks to get into a position around mines, other ships arcs, etc and then just unload with the alpha strike. From what I can tell if I use the mines they won't drop the defiant out of stealth either.
In terms of defenses, I have 5/8 dice on the koranak and 6/8 dice in the defiant. That's almost romulan like. Damage output is enhances with the koranak shooting 5 dice and the defiant shooting 4 with rerolls. It won't blow a ship out of the water in one go, but it should help
Actions are a plenty as well. Dukat gives either BS or an Evade, Picard does his thing, and the Fed Flagship will give dukat an extra action meaning I can BS/Sensor echo on his movement, and then when picard moves I can scan or evade with dukat depending on if I'm going in for the kill or not.
I don't plan on doing a huge alpha strike but I'm hoping that with maneuvering and proper use of the cloaks I can stick around from all the shenanigans that may or may not arise. I'll probably test this idea out soon :D

The End of the Dominion war and the future.
So, our store just had the Final event in the dominion war, and I must say, I'm sad that it's ending, but on the plus side.. I own my own Bajoran ship! That's right, I ended up going 2-1 beating the "jank" fleet there, although that was itself a lot of luck and I had a little bit of foreknowledge of it to begin with.
I took something different, yet, I still remained Fluffy. I ran a Fighters/Federation ship/Dominion ship fleet with what will be the last ever outing of admirals orders, which I'm sad that United force is gone, but not sad that strike force which everyone else in the tournament was running.
The reason for the federation ship was 2 fold. One, I fear for the Borg OP event that the dominion faction will not be present in the "who are you fighting for" and I wanted to not feel bad switching to a more federation orientated fleet.
Two. I wanted to remain pure faction and take Miles "Pimp Daddy" O'brien. He's rarely used around here because our local meta is pump a lot of dice and up until today not a lot of people had even known or seen something like Conditional surrender/Weyoun. The reason I wanted to put him into the fleet was not because I knew that I would be seeing that, but because in the last op5 event I missed out on the Rav by an interphase generator and I wanted to have a reliable way to shut something like that off the moment I set up my shots..
I was never in the running for ds9 so I was just playing for basically Story and theme, but I did end up having a good time even tho I decided to build myself a damn parking lot on black friday with all my ships in two games... Yes, I still suck at maneuvering but I don't care.
Walking away the bajoran ship was excellent tho. I already have use for Kira as well as some cards like I am Kohn-Ma, and Tana Los. in a more torpedo oriented federation fleet.
So what's next. Well, We'll be having a "no holds barred, No AO, No Prize ships" tournament here next month to tide us over til the Tholian event, and the Gorn event. Then afterwards, we have the borg.
I haven't decided yet what to play in that one, but my Kira Blockade pew pew torpedo fleet idea will have to wait. I'm hoping that it will be after the release of wave 4 and voyager has some good cards in it.
The dominion will always be my first love and I'll bring them out from time to time, but I'll slowly throw some more into the federation in preparation for the borg, but that doesn't mean that boheeka won't pop up on say the Enterprise D sometime :D

To double battleship or to not
I've been toying with a few lists with the battleship in mind, and I think I've come up with one that I might be somewhat satisfied in terms of it being both annoying and effective while not being totally game breaking.
this idea came while I was building the Weyoun/Conditional surrender Bullshit list. It puts two of the "dreadnoughts" in the star trek universe on the same side as well as remaining fluffy and effective.
Admiral's Order: United Force (0)
Resource: Hideki Class Attack Fighters (20)
Jem'Hadar Battleship (34)
Weyoun (5)
Boheeka (1)
Ikat'Ika (4)
Dorsal Weapons Array (3)
Shroud (1)
Ship SP: 48
U.S.S Enterprise-D (28)
Jean-Luc Picard (6)
Miles O'Brien (2)
Dmitri Valtane (3)
Hikaru Sulu (3)
Ship SP: 42
Total Build SP: 110
The idea behind this is to have the battleship blast things, if it's targeted by a heavy alpha strike then shrouded ikat.
The D is there for it's maneuverability as well as Miles.. The key to destroying anything with conditional surrender/interphase generator etc.
I just threw sulu there because I didn't have the points for anything else that I wanted and I really didn't want to turn the D into a torpedo boat as I don't have that many actions. Each ship can fire at a 360 and the fighters are there to be the fighters.
If this list does what I think it will do in theory, it might just be the answers I need to win the bajoran ship this month while still remaining not a power gamer :D

Conditional Bull..Shut your mouth!
How could the game come to this.
As much as I try and try not to, the increased dice for attack rolls has almost gotten out of hand. I'm really tempted to actually run this fleet for op6 if one of my other two pure fleets don't work out.
Warning: This fleet is complete and utter Rulebreaking yet not.
Resource: Flagship Independent (Klingon) (10)
4th Division Battleship (36)
Weyoun (4)
Flagship (0)
Conditional Surrender (4)
Breen Aide (2)
Shroud (1)
Ship SP: 47
Jem'Hadar Attack Ship (20)
Luaran (2)
Boheeka (0)
Ship SP: 22
Jem'Hadar Attack Ship (20)
Sar (1)
Ship SP: 21
Total Build SP: 100
It's basically Oh you want to attack the 7 attack dice battleship? Nope, Weyoun/shroud says you just wasted your alpha strike.. Who cares if you attack the 22/21 point ships, the main points are in the battleship that is obliterating a ship at a time with no fear of retaliation.
It's almost immune to Miles as well because the shields will almost always be up and mines aren't an issue with some decent maneuvers..
It's probably the cheesiest thing to come up in a while.

Fun with Fluff!... sorta
With the battleship coming in this weekend, I've been toying around with builds for it. I've also been toying around with the use of mines (cloaked etc) because right now in the area no one uses mines.. granted no one really plays Romulans around here right now anyway..
Then I got to thinking of making probably the most annoying yet effective fleet that is based somewhat on fluff.. well, Minor version of fluff considering the fact that certain people aren't captains or cards yet in the game.
This is based off the Tal Shiar /Obsidian order Massacre at the Omarian Nebula with a twist.
It's pure annoyance, firepower at its best, and hopefully will implement more of a sense of "Let's do more than just jousting" in the area.
Admiral's Order: United Force (0)
Resource: Hideki Class Attack Fighters (20)
4th Division Battleship (36)
Weyoun (4)
Ikat'Ika (5)
Toman'Torax (5)
Shroud (1)
Ship SP: 51
I.R.W. Khazara (30)
Donatra (4)
Romulan Pilot (2)
Cloaked Mines (3)
Ship SP: 39
Total Build SP: 110
The idea of this fluff-y ish list is control. Toman'Torax nukes any crew he doesn't like with no repercussions thanks to Shroud and Weyoun. Donut and his Khazara boosts the battleship up to 7 attack dice while dropping his cloaked mines in a position to where if the enemy wants to get around the battleship, they have to take a few mines to the face giving me enough time to maneuver around with the slow ass ship.
It'll be nice to see in theory for a game at least.

HELP! I'm Turning into a power gamer!
OP5 Has come to an end without me winning the ship that I wanted. 2 events and the same people won the ships both events, which makes me personally think that the store should implement a rule that if you won a ship on a random you're ineligible for it again.. but that's not the point of this post.
The point is, I was so close to actually winning the ship that I wanted with a faction pure build, only to be destroyed by what I am going to call Rainbow Lameness. The fleet had all the best cards from all the factions and literally screwed me out of even doing damage to the ships thanks to 3 million "free" actions a turn on the two ships.
I actually walked away from the latest event pissed off because of that. We play in an environment where 99% of the players are good, but choose to at least play "Semi Fluffy" builds. But that 1% power gamer (and who's almost guaranteed to get the stores ds9 model now) is ruining it for everyone else.
I really don't want to turn into a power gamer, but I got to thinking why I was pissed off. Was it that I didn't win what I really wanted Or was it more of the fact that I was playing a pure faction build vs Rainbow Lameness and lost because of min/maxing the system. I think it was a mixture of both. I decided on the dominion because of the cardassians. I've been in the process, and made it well known that I want to branch out into more builds, hell I even have my battleship on order at this point. I even have plans that when the borg events start in 3 months to see how well the dominion would do against the borg. Yet, When I had a chance after 2 really tough games that I just get swatted away from MY ship because this person already has it and is playing every good card out there currently It really starts to eat at me.
I really don't want to turn into a power gamer, but with op6 coming up I'm going to try and get the bajoran ship (if mostly to see if I can't trade/sell it for the dominion one) and I also want someone other than the 1% to win our events, yet, I don't want to "do the same tactics" as the winner because If I win using that method I would feel that I've cheated myself.
So, that got me thinking of a list that I will playtest as soon as my battleship comes in, and judge how effective it would be to take to op6 to try and counter the 1% power gamers yet still remain true to myself.
I call it...FUN WITH THE BREEN!
Admiral's Order: United Force (0)
Resource: Hideki Class Attack Fighters (20)
Gor Portas (26)
Gul Dukat (5)
Captured Intelligence (3)
Boheeka (2)
Energy Dissipator (5)
Ship SP: 41
Jem'Hadar Battleship (34)
Weyoun (4)
Ikat'Ika (5)
Breen Aide (2)
Dorsal Weapons Array (3)
Shroud (1)
Ship SP: 49
Total Build SP: 110
The idea behind this is to be able to counter Rainbow lameness/Super tanks while still being able to put up a fight, a long with a few tricks of my own.
The Dissipator is the most undervalued and underused weapon, if because of range 1 limit, but because it's limited to the breen ships, and since most of the Rainbow Coalition run 9-8 captains it would blow it up before it got a chance to use it. I'm hoping with the other two ships in the fleet being the bigger targets, I can manage to go in there, shut down one of their little super tanks/cloakers (because once the token comes on it removes EVERY token on the ship (i think, at least the cloak token) and either finish them off with the battle ship, or just be very annoying with the breen ship while I concentrate firepower on everything else.
With Ikat'ika, any ship that shoots at the battleship will be forced to re-roll all their hits/Crits/Battlestations for as long as I have Weyoun enabled, and Shroud. Effectively 3 uses in a turn if I want to stop an alpha strike on the battle ship.
I'm hoping that this list will be very effective and hopefully will be the turning point to show that not only can pure faction be viable, but that you don't have to be a powergamer to win ships...
This would be easier if they would just release these ships to buy after the op ><

OP5 Build for number 2??
Well, After getting back from My OP5 event for attack wing, after going 1-2 with a 2 ship KHAN!/dukat fleet, I've decided to try and change it up a bit.. well, considering that I went 1-2 and I really want that Rav Larast I'd have to. I think my problem was that not only was I trying to do too many things at once (a downfall of most of my gaming builds) and gimping myself overall. I think this is my only OP that I'm actually taking serious with my "fleets" as the prize is a dominion ship :)
So I've decided to go back to a 3 Cardi Fleet, as I'm unsure that the battleship will be in by this upcoming sunday. My thinking is, Yes, 3 ships (especially cardi ships) are bad at maneuvering, but that's 3 ships focus firing on a target and hopefully either take it out, or have it drastically hampered. I really loved Khan's ability to be a badass, plus I love the thought of having an 8 skill captain in my fleet, especially when the highest dominion skill is 7.
So The list:
Admiral's Order: United Force (0)
Resource: Flagship Independent (Klingon) (10)
Koranak (26)
Khan Singh (5)
Flagship (0)
Boheeka (0)*
Dorsal Weapons Array (0)*
Ship SP: 36
Kraxon (26)
Gul Dukat (5)
Breen Aide (0)*
Dorsal Weapons Array (0)*
Ship SP: 36
Cardassian Keldon Class (24)
Gul Danar (2)
Ship SP: 26
Total Build SP: 98
As you can see I'm still sitting at 2 points with nothing I really want to put on any of the ships. I have to use an Independant flagship on the koranak in order to make Khan legal for united force.
It came down to either the independant klingon, or the romulan one. Considering I'm using tugboats I decided to just say fuck the defense, Lemme just roll attack dice out of my ass.
What this gives me, is Khans ship having 6 attack dice (7 at range 1), The Kraxon with dukat having 5 attack dice at all ranges due to the klingon flagship card adding a dice at range band 2-3 and already having a dice added at rangeband 1, and the cheap Danar ship having 6 attack dice at all times.
Each ship has a way to almost guarantee at least a hit, Khan with Boheeka, Dukat with a breen aid, and Danar with a re-roll.. not guaranteed but helps.
The whole fleet is not very defensive, but it does have the kraxon to help mitigate damage on the other ships as well as being a target on it's own.
Actions:
Danar would be a battle stations
Dukat would be a battle stations*Free* and a scan
Khan would be Scan*free* and battle stations
Khan would fire first, pick a target, and unload on a target (or two if I felt that I could knock out multiple shields and/or hull)
Dukat would then follow up at the target that khan shot(or the weaker of the two if I had split fired) With Danar stealing the thunder by either finishing off a target, or doing some damage on his own to another target to have Khan blow the shit out of the sky next round.
I would honestly love to be able to put another breen aid on the keldon, but There's only one Gor Portas available, and I'm still debating what ship out of the ones I need (another Koranak, Kraxon, Reliant, Defiant, Enterprise,5th Wing) that I want to get because I have the upcoming battleship to purchase.
I'm hoping that this fleet will do better than the one I ran today. I think it will really cut through some of these heavily cloaked and heavily armored ships that are starting to emerge in the area.
when op6 comes around, I'll go back to more "fluffy" lists :D.. although, this honestly is really almost fluffy when you think about it.. I mean 3 cardassian ships, and a "what if Khan woke up and stole a cardassian ship"

Admiral's orders.. Nerfed?!? No problem!
So, the overpowered admiral's orders are finally nerfed. You can only take one admirals orders as well as one resource. As the fighters (which I REALLY REALLY want to use) are still unable to be taken, and considering I already ran and like to run pure builds, mostly due to my collection is currently limited. I've decided to retweak my three cardi list that served me well in op4.
Without further adieu.

Kornak moves
Free Battle stations
Ship action-Scan by default, Cloak/Emissions when the enemy gets close, or cloak on turn 1 if playing against Trans-warp drive feds.
The idea behind this fleet is not to maximize the number of actions, but to maximize it's offensive and defensive capabilities as well as making the tug boats a little bit more maneuverable. With the Keldons cloaking and sensor echoing to get around for a second shot, I've removed the dorsals from them. The Kraxon's soul purpose in this list is to share shields, and give each of the two keldons 1 guarantee evade as it makes it's way slowly towards the enemy. Do you shoot at the kraxon only to get blown up by dukat and evek? Or do you shoot at the other ships and have them evade everything.
Hopefully this will work out :)
Without further adieu.

To Boldy Go... Into cardassia!!!!!
In keeping with my theme of Attack wing being both fun, entertaining and my goal to make fun, viable, competitive, not over the top builds AND with the fact that our local store won't be getting in the new dominion battleship that I wanted to use for this months OP5 (Battle For CARDASSIA!) I've come up with not one, but TWO effective yet still fluffy/thematic fleets.
This first one I ended up playing 3 games with the other day and it worked even despite my rash I don't give a fuck about anything attitude. Both lists include the Overpowered Admirals orders available from wizkids as well as both ships having the independent flagship for the dominion. *Free target lock + another ship can make another move*
List 1:
Ship 1:
Kornak- (because I'm playing dominion)
Dukat
Boheeka
Cloaking device
Tetryon emissions
Dorsal weapons array.
*This is my go to dominion cardassian attack ship. With a well timed cloak and emissions dukat should live past the inital alpha strike to return the favor with boheeka backing his captian up. Also, since the boat moves like a sloth I have the dorsals to shoot at things that get to my tailpipe.*
Ship 2:
USS Excelsior as the flagship
Picard - Amazing in a can
Engage - extra movement
Dimitri Valtane- because re-rolling 2 attack dice is a lot better IMO than turning all battle stations to hits via spock.
Starter Set Miles O'brian - To disable a key piece of my opponents ship for at least a turn.
Scotty - Because.. He drinks scotch and does what he wants!
Quantom torps.
109/110
I know what your saying.. Wait, why is there a federation ship in your dominion fleet? Well, For one I wanted to use the battleship during this op but because of a delay It wont be in the stores in time. Second, It makes fluff sense for those that have watched season 6 and 7 of DS9. And Lastly, It's very effective in terms of action managment/ survivability/ damage output.
Typical actions include:
dukat Free battlestations
Kornak either a scan or re enabling something/Emissions/Cloaking.
Excelsior
Free action scan, then lets the kornak move again
Free action Target lock
Picards action
Ships action of whatever I haven't done.
Note: Free action using strike force Will vary from time to time.
This is the second Fleet, and a bit more fluffy when it comes to the battle of cardassia.
Fleet 2:
Ship 1:
Kornak- (because I'm playing dominion)
Dukat
Captured Intelligence -You'll see why in a minute
Boheeka
Cloaking device
Tetryon emissions
Dorsal weapons array.
Ship 2 -Flagship
USS Defiant
Benjamin Sisko
Attack pattern Delta
Attack Pattern Omega
Lojur
Dimitri Valtane
Quantoms
Cloaking Device.
This second fleet (and one I am really starting to like for fluff purposes) Has the same amount of actions, but better survivability.
I lose out of Picard doing his thing, but to be honest in playtest it got to the point that after all these free actions I didn't know what to do. With this second fleet, It's all DAMN THE TORPEDOS FULL STEAM AHEAD!
It's designed to basically ignore the platforms because each ship will roll on average 5 defense dice with some form of a re-roll or extra dice.
I won't get the full benefits of the strike force's added dice because a majority of the game both ships will be cloaked, but after the initial Alpha strike, I plan on making full use of it.
In addition, Whenever the defiant hits an opposing ships hull (like.. all those cloaked ships out there) I get to put a warp core breach on the ship to make my opponent sweat.
Actions are:
Dukat
Free Battlestations
Scan
Sisko
Free movement for the kornak
Free Target lock
Free Strike Force Battle stations/scan
Scan/Battlestations (whatever I didn't chose for the free strike force action) OR re-enabling everything as I slowly go towards the enemy.
I can't wait to try out this second fleet tho, see how well it will work.. :D

Campaign Start + other updates
So, with the campaign just getting started and I'm very lazy when it comes to updates. I've decided to do this update post/put what I would like to call part 1 of a narrative for the campaign, as well as updating on my Attack wing force.
Attack Wing: I played in my stores recent OP4 event and went 2-1. I don't know how well it put me against all the other dominion players but I had a blast. I can't wait for Febuary's OP5 and the new battleship as I might go with a version of "cardassia goes to war" with all the dominion ships.. I think for now I will be sticking with pure faction and I really hope that I win one of the prize ships as I really like the idea of maybe one day running a breen force along side the cardassian and Jem Hadar.
Campaign:
For those that don't know, the campaign is 3 teams fighting over an island. Each team has a leader who for now basically just get's extra money to build stuff including ships that you can use/give to your teammates to go around the map and attack your enemies.
Without further adieu, here's the start of the narrative for the campaign.
The reports were coming in to his tactical chamber inside the castle in the port city of New Karond.
"You have got to be kidding me" His elven hand placed firmly on his forehead at the reports laid out in front of him. "This is the last time I am giving any slave any sort of leeway when working in these newly constructed mines!" He snarked. As he arose from the table to look out the window at the slave revolt being taken care of by his Black Guard, he couldn't help but to think back on to how it all began and why he was here on this Island of Osh.
It was an old journal, one left by his ancestor, Lord Alaric Drakenhoff that had mentioned his old kingdom and all the riches he had buried there that had led him, Lord Sythril Rythar Draken to the island. The journal described everything to perfect detail from the encounters with chaos, to the high elf incursion and the bretons beating his ancestor to the riches of the land, as well as cataloging his slow decent into madness til his subsequent Exile and murder by his own beloved after giving birth to a new generation.
A slow knock on the door awoke him from his reminiscing. As he opened the door one of his lieutenants stepped in, armor still bloodied from the slave riot 'resolution'. 'Sir, Reports are coming in from our Allies, They have engaged enemies on multiple fronts. The undead are engaging the Empire up north while our rather berzerk Warriors and deamon allies have engaged enemies to our east. It seems that they are eager to gain Khaines blessing' The Lieutenant said with a smirk.
"Excellent, It seems that allying with them was a smart move in this environment, and at little cost to us. The Vampire king will have plenty of bodies to raise up, the Warriors and Deamons will have plenty of.. how do they say it, 'Blood for the Blood god?'. It's almost a perfect arrangement. Soon, we will have the other commanders begging us for mercy" Sythril smirked, his eyes glistening in the Afternoon twilight. "Now, as soon as this slave rebellion is over I want to hold a meeting to discuss our next move.. And get me a better map of the enemies movements and have the scout who claimed to have been there "Disposed" of. If we are to plan our moves as well as assisting our allies, I want a more accurate representation of the armies and their movements.. None of this, 'well maybe the Ogres, orcs,Lizards,High elves, and Empire are moving somewhere in this general area'. I demand perfection if we are to achieve victory here. You are dismissed"
His Lieutenant bowed and backed out of the chamber. Sythril's attention turned back to the dying revolt, a small smirk rising across his face. Not only will he surpass his anscestor in terms of power, but he will bring glory to not only the entire empire, to khaine, Hekatrix and all the gods, but to home..

Holy Cardassians!
So, It's happened....
I'm now playing Star Trek Attack wing... and I'm not ashamed of it.
As most people know, I am a huge star trek fan with my favorite series being DS9. When I first heard of Attack wing I was curious but only a little bit. It had the feds, romulans, and klingons only at that time with a few independent ships being released in tournament play. I watched a few games but it was more casual observation of my friends playing, Me being curious but only in the casual setting.
Then, It came out.. Gul Dukat and Cardassians.. Sure they were under the faction the Dominion..(meaning they are taking them from the latter half of the DS9 era) but... CARDASSIANS!!! By far my favorite race in the entire Trek Universe.. hell, I play SWTOR with my main character being named Garak for cardi's sakes! *yes, I brought trek into wars!* So, I got more into the game being even more curious as to the rules and nuances of it. One of my friends built me a pure dominion(cardassian focus) for my first game, and I barley won. The win didn't suck me in, but the ease of the game, the rules, and the fact that even tho cardassian ships turn like school bus's they just seemed to "fit me". This was later confirmed in the next couple of learning games I played using Klingon and Romulan forces. Sure, they turn fast, but they just didn't ... Fit the way I play. I wasn't as precise, stealthy, one step ahead as I needed to be and the actions just got confusing! even with a klingon 3 ship build that was just designed to push ships forward, I didn't know when I needed to cloak or when I needed to scan, sensor echo, etc.
So, I started looking at what's out there and the more and more I looked at it, the more and more I wanted to do dominion...with a focus on the cardassians (and not the jem hadar/vorta/ breen part). I mean, With Dukat leading the way and helping out with a free action, and the best crewman in the game Boheeka (who my friend was using in most all of his federation builds) it just seemed right, that and with me being new I wanted a fleet that it could be fun, cheap, and theme-y.
Then, I took the plunge. I bought the Kornak who had dukat and boheekan in it and I built a fleet.
I'll be participating in my first tournament here in a few weeks (borrowing the rest of the cardassians I need for the list while I acquire the other cardassian ships and the base game (for the templates and dice...)). I'm shooting for at least one win, but more than that I'm wanting to have some fun with the cardassians!
Fleet:
Kornak
Dukat
Capture intelligence
Dorsal weapon array
Boheekan
Kraxon
Generic Cardassian of I'm here to tank hits!
Keldon (generic version of the kornak)
Darnar
Dorsal weapon array
Breen aid (the only non cardassian, but fits as not only does it work well, but gives the impression that the Dominion still have some control over their members)
Tetryon emmisions.
I do realize that if you don't know what these cards do this list will be kinda like wtf are these, but I hope that the more experience I get in the game, I can give a more in depth explanation.
Also, Our Fantasy campaign will be starting up soon, so My dark elves should be getting more play time (and subsequently more blogging) so look for more of that as well :D
