Redstone rumble Aftermath, Attack wing lists

So, The 2014 Redstone rumble is now complete and I've had a day to recover. I did not officially play in the rumble due to life events popping up months in advance, but I did help out and was the ringer, which I was only needed for one game over the course of two days.

The overall tournament was great as usual. Everyone I talked to while walking around, handing out score sheets, etc had nothing but good things, and I know they are looking forward to next years rumble.. which, I hope that, barring some drastic life things, I will actually once again be an active player than just a helper, although, I did like not having to deal with any pressure, and all the rules questions I was asked were minor and easily settled. I also learned I can actually run on 2 hours of sleep and not rip anyone's head off :)

The borg collective op is done, with myself placing 3rd overall, (all because during month two I couldn't roll dice), and it will be onto Resistance is Futile in a couple of weeks. We'll be changing things up by having two options to run this block of tournaments. We can either do our 90/30 blind build, or build 120 points straight from our collection. I've been working on a few 120 point builds to playtest in the meantime.

The first month of RIF is basically arena minus the running into the web you die. that in mind, I've come up with a Federation/Dominion list, because borg are dumb and I want to play a REAL faction first, with that in mind.

Resource: Flagship Independent (Romulan) (10)

USS Enterprise-E (32)
Jean-Luc Picard - Crew (5)
Attack Pattern Omega (3)
Adm. James T. Kirk (5)
Boheeka (3)
Tom Paris (4)
Dorsal Phaser Array (6)
Tactical Station (4)
Ship SP: 62

Jem'Hadar Battle Cruiser (32)
Gul Damar (4)
Flagship (0)
Omet'Iklan (5)
Amat'Igan (3)
Antiproton Scan (4)
Ship SP: 48

Total Build SP: 120

The idea is simple. I take the two biggest, baddest ships in each respected fleets, and tear them a new one! With the E I am firing at 10, I will always be firing 5 dice from the 360, Ahab picard picking the faction that my opponent has more points into, hoping to get that Attack pattern omega off, or weakening the shields. It will roll 1 dice for the ship normally, 1 dice for Ahab(vs the chosen foe), 1 dice for Paris, and 1 dice for the Rom flagship that will be near by.  4 dice is nothing to scoff at these days. The Tactical stations will get discarded when I feel the need to push the dice through with Battlestations and boheeka to get a ship down.

The Cruiser is piloted by Damar for two reasons. ONE this is going to be a close quarters fight, I expect mines and secondary weapons out the ying yang, and two, I wanted to use him in an actual fleet as I do not need Dukat in this list with the set up. The Cruiser will be doing a Battle stations, and scan every turn, or using kirk's action to disable my opponents bullshit. and firing 6 dice vs a ship with shields and 7 dice vs a ship without it. Omet converts one blank to a hit from the primary, and the ship itself is rolling 3 defense dice, oh and omet can not be assimilated thanks to amat.

Overall, I am really liking this two ship list. I hope to test it out here in the near future but it's looking good in theory.

Until next time I decide to blog :D

Tournament for charity and "battle testing"

So, I have just gotten back from battle testing my latest list, and also raising money for a good cause.

For my list, see my previous blog post.

The tournament was a three round tournament with proceeds going towards Toys for tots. In the end, I won the tournament but we managed to raise 85 dollars and a ton of toys for them so it was a success.

So, Instead of going through a full battle report for each game, I'll just hit the highlights for my list.

Game 1

Faced off against empire light/war machine council. 3 cannons, 2 hellblasters, light mages out the ass, a block of knights and one unit of spearmen with 2 detachments. He made the mistake of advancing towards me and not shooting at me as I rushed my three blocks and the kardashian up as fast as I could to get into the safety of combat. We called the game on turn 3 when I had destroyed his detachments, had his spearmen assaulted and flanked by corsairs, executioners and the kardashian, and had my blackguard playing clean up duty on the war machines and mages.

Game 2

Warriors of khorne and nurgle were my next opponent in a meeting engagement senario. I played the waiting game, shoring up my blocks to get charges and flanks as I had the shooting advantage. Finally, he charged into my corsairs with lord (who proceeded to hold after doing a ton of wounds) and I flanked him with executioners and the kardashian. He was almost tabled on turn 5 after his khorne deamon prince got eaten by the kardashian because he stole her money.

Game 3

Blood and glory vs heavy orcs with chaff. He only had a fortitude of 5 so I tried desperatly to doombolt the general for two turns before a doom diver took them out, but managed to kill his bsb in combat, and his block of goblins (who took a Word of pain/bladewind combo to the face and killed 40 something gobbos) for the win. I couldn't kill a friggen giant with 30 dice needing one friggen 6 to kill him. Finally my black guard with mage was like, ok we got this and killed the giant, who fell into some trees.

Overall List

After facing the 3 spectrums (heavy shooting/magic, Heavy combat, Enough Chaff to bleed your eyes) I am really happy with the list, and with dark magic for the list. Even when one aspect of the army either failed or got wiped out, the other two picked up the slack.

Some things of note. Depending on the match up I can move my characters around. There were times where I wished my bsb was with my black guard, and my mage with the corsairs etc but I stuck with my initial character thought placement to see how it would be.

I love warlocks.. they did 3 wounds to a hellcannon before getting away after being beat in combat and got away.

Overall a good turn out for a good cause, and I can officially say that I have a "tournament" list that I will try and shoot for next year's tournament circuit.  Plus gaming for a good cause is never a bad thing :D

Welcome

I've finally settled down and created my very own blog. Bear with me as I try and find the intricacies of this process and once I figure it all out, then I shall get down to what this blog really is about.
