To boldy Cheat.. Aka I don't like to lose!

So, After some time I decided to do some more blogging. sorry for the delay but life has been a little hectic.

Borg OP1, the first of two that I will be attending, was this past sunday. I managed to pull out the tie for second place, and being the top non borg player in the event where 3 out of the 8 people playing were running borg. It was using the blind buy and I managed to pull ship 1 of 3 that I wanted, the Maquis raider. I plan on going into more details on how awesome I think the blind ships are after playing them soon, but for now, Michael eddington is amazing.

So, with the second Borg OP1 coming up in a week, I've decided to try my hands at .... FEDERATION!  *waits for my readers to wake up after passing out*

I've been wanting to run feds for a while, but dominion has always been my first love and will always be my go to fleet because I know every trick they can pull and some evil combos that can be triggered. I was also fed up with the fact that Borg are everywhere..

So, I got to thinking, how do you deal with a souped up tactical cube in op1 that can avoid it's borg buddies and assimilate you.. With federation, I came up with a brilliant idea.. CHEAT!

Not cheating per say, but basically taking a 100 point fleet with great synergy to a 90/30 tournament thanks to non other than the Reinforcement sideboard.

First, the list.

Resource: Reinforcement Sideboard (10)
Jean Luc Picard -Captain
Faked Messages -Talent
Quantum Torpedoes -Weapon
The Doctor -Tech

USS Voyager (30)
Khan Singh (6)
Attack Pattern Omega (3)
Boheeka (2)
Shroud (1)
Ship SP: 42

U.S.S. Defiant (24)
Christopher Pike (4)
Adm. James T. Kirk (5)
Tuvok (4)
Lojour (1)
Ship SP: 38

Total Build SP: 90

First off, This is Khan... With KIRK.. FROM THE SAME MOVIE! A million nerds head just exploded from seeing that. But, there's a reason for this.

The list is simple. Khan uses voyagers ability to shoot everywhere with a battlestations to pump out the crits, and the moment a cube takes one to the hull, which bypasses their ablative armor by the way thanks to khan's turning battle stations into crits after the defender modifies, it's getting a warp core breach. Pike is the starting captain for the defiant. He makes Tuvok and lojour cheaper. Three out of the 4 cards on the sideboard go on the defiant. Picard goes first, then the doctor, followed by the quantums when I get within range. If my opponent comes at me faster than anticipated, it'll be picard then quantums and save the doctor for when I need to restart the combo again.Defiant is there because it has excellent maneuverability. 2-3 white turns with a 90 degree front and rear can insure the quantum's get to their target.

Picard will be an 11 to ensure his quantums fire first, stripping 7 damage, assuming all hits and battlestations, off say the cube leaving it without hull. Khan will then take some pot shots and either their armor will be eaten up, or they will take a warp core breach to the face, and thanks to boheeka it will almost always do some damage unless the dice gods decide to make me cry. Shroud is there to protect boheeka from being assimilated for a turn if the cube decides to play nasty.

Now, the two tech cards in the list, and the reason why I have Admiral kirk in the list. His fleet action to disable any upgrade of my choosing at range 1 is amazing.. Disabling Ass tubes, Disabling their ablative armor, disabling spock or anything else I don't like will be great, AND the blind ship that I draw can use the action, so if it's on its last legs I can run it into the opponent and disable something with it freeing up the beefier ships to do their normal complement of actions, or just do that even if it isn't on its last leg. Kirk Also CAN NOT be assimilated by ass tubes as he is not a crew, weapon, or tech upgrade. He also can not be stolen by any means as he is a captain, and is another buffer to save my captain if the BTC decides to go assimilation happy thanks to poor positioning on my part.

Speaking of borg and assimilating, here comes my ace in the hole.. Faked messages. It's from the gorn ship, and it is more of a threat than anything. What it does is at the end of the planning phase after all dials are set, I discard it to target a ship outside of 1-3 of the ship using the talent, that ship then ignores its dials and moves a 1 white forward. Meaning, if I'm going against borg and their ship is facing towards the edge or back of the board to do some sliding shenanigains, I can throw them off the board. I can also make sure that if they did a big maneuver to slide in to ass tube me before I have a chance to disable it with Kirk, I can just force them to move a one forward, screwing up their plans. It can go on any of the 3 ships in my fleet too. I can always throw it on the blind ship if it's going to be further back or out of range to do anything. Also, if they are playing with the Transwarp conduit, which guarentees that they will be outside of range 1-3 if you have it on your ship you can almost force them into a spot where they didn't want to be for fear of it.

I'm hoping that this build will be effective as it's a lot more tricks than what I'm used to, but being able to basically Cheat and run 10 more points than my opponent... Great! I mean, I'd feel bad against my non borg opponents, but Fuck the borg. They cheat already with their movement so time to return the favor.
