In a non warhammer related note, I am going to basically talk about the differences I've noticed between the android phones and the iphone, specifically between my Atrix 4g and my Iphone 4
First, the phone itself:
Let's start with the Atrix. As of this date it is currently outdated and unable to be upgraded to the latest droid operating system. This can cause some issue with some of the newer android applications and it's longevity.
The Iphone 4 on the other hand has the latest Ios operating system and can be upgraded when a new OS is released as well as if new features are released..
Advantage: Iphone 4
Phone Customization:
The Atrix runs the android operating system with the ability to download themes that you can install and easily customize the way that your phone looks. All of these themes are available in the play store for free and you can easily tweak them to the liking, Example I use Go Launcher EX on my atrix and it looks amazing.
The iphone on the other hand can not be customized the way that you want it without first doing something called Jailbreaking. This voids the warranty on the phone, although the simple trick around it is to just save all your settings and apps onto your computer and just factory reset the phone before you get it worked on. It's also more difficult to customize due to having to use the store called Cydia where you have to basically know what your looking for and how to install it. once this is all done tho, the phone can look like any phone you want.
Advantage: Atrix
App support:
Atrix's app selection is greater because its an android phone. It's easier to develop for android systems due to all droid phones having a back button and a menu button. Most apps on the play store are free of charge and have a wider selection.
The iphone has a lot of the same apps that the android has with a few exceptions. Soundboards are generally lacking and a lot of free apps that are on the google play store cost money.
Advantage: Neither
Notifications:
The atrix, being a droid phone, has this little LED notification when your phone is sitting in the "locked" position making it real handy if you walk away to say get a shower or get something to eat to know that you've received a message.
The iphone has the option to turn on a flashing light for notifications, but it doesn't repeat enough for you to even notice. It does however have a pull down notification screen on the lock menu so if your curious as to if anyone has called or sent a text or whatnot, you can pull that down.
Advantage: Neither
Last but not least, User piece of mind:
With the atrix, I was able to easily find and make the phone look exactly how I wanted it to. If I messed up and hit a button I wasn't supposed to, I didn't have to go out of the app to fix it. I could just hit the back button and be done with it.
The iphone after I had jailbroke it, is looking almost identical to my atrix. It's taken a lot of time to get it that way and not having a back button takes some getting used to, but I am learning how to swipe back and forth between things.
Although I am stuck with the Iphone til I can upgrade again, It's not as bad as when I first sat down and got it. I will go back to a droid operating system tho on my next phone but for the time being it's not as bad as I thought. I just think that any operating system that doesn't support the user without having to basically violate the law isn't that good of an operating system.
I can still use my atrix offline and through wi-fi connections but it's basically my swtor security key, and a portable mini tablet that can't connect to the internet.
