The typical Gamer mentality about their new book. |
Actually, I'm not.
With the start of 8th edition, and the trend I am starting to see in 40k's 6th edition, each of the books that have been released have had a set formula. They all tone down some of the more undercosted and broken items/builds or they still let you have them but at an insane points hike. If you want your 50 horde mark of khorne greatweapon marauders now, It's 580 points vs the 300 points it was in the last book. You can still do it, but your missing out on say that extra block of tzeentch warriors with shields, or maybe your level 4 of nurgle(which is now one of the most badass lores in the new book) doesn't have all the special things.
Now, the cries of "oh this isn't how I played my XxX army" is starting to get old. There is plenty of precedence now that we're seeing how they are writing their books to expect what will go into the army book. Don't expect your Slaan deathstar or your peglord of doom to be as good in the new books when they are released, and yes It will make me very sad. I think that's the point of these books. They are wanting you to sit down and actually play the models that you want to play! Yes there are some models that do not match their gameplay, The newly released slaughterbeast is an example.. Kill your chaos lord and the beast starts going crazy, but there are a lot of them that finally match what you expect when you envision the army..
This isn't to say that you can not still make your broken I don't want to have any more friends lists. VC have some excellent power lists especially with the FAQ that if they crumble your opponent can not overrun.(insert zombie spam here) and warriors now have their own version of a "god list" involving a deamon prince and some toys, looking at you dual hellcannon and Khorne juggies..
It's just the cries of "why did I even show up to play this game" are lessened now.
This all being said, am I going to cry a little inside when my dark elves get their new book next year?Yes
Will I cry why are they nerfing me? No.
I will adapt to the current meta around here and see what kind of fun theme builds I can do. I already do not play the most broken list that I can think of and yet I still win, as long as my dice aren't committing seppukku on me. I play because it's fun to play and I like the theme and the people around me.
So, before you fully go into "why did they nerf XXX" sit back and look at everything from an overhead perspective. You aren't being nerfed, Your just getting brought in line with the rest of the edition.
