OP5 Has come to an end without me winning the ship that I wanted. 2 events and the same people won the ships both events, which makes me personally think that the store should implement a rule that if you won a ship on a random you're ineligible for it again.. but that's not the point of this post.
The point is, I was so close to actually winning the ship that I wanted with a faction pure build, only to be destroyed by what I am going to call Rainbow Lameness. The fleet had all the best cards from all the factions and literally screwed me out of even doing damage to the ships thanks to 3 million "free" actions a turn on the two ships.
I actually walked away from the latest event pissed off because of that. We play in an environment where 99% of the players are good, but choose to at least play "Semi Fluffy" builds. But that 1% power gamer (and who's almost guaranteed to get the stores ds9 model now) is ruining it for everyone else.
I really don't want to turn into a power gamer, but I got to thinking why I was pissed off. Was it that I didn't win what I really wanted Or was it more of the fact that I was playing a pure faction build vs Rainbow Lameness and lost because of min/maxing the system. I think it was a mixture of both. I decided on the dominion because of the cardassians. I've been in the process, and made it well known that I want to branch out into more builds, hell I even have my battleship on order at this point. I even have plans that when the borg events start in 3 months to see how well the dominion would do against the borg. Yet, When I had a chance after 2 really tough games that I just get swatted away from MY ship because this person already has it and is playing every good card out there currently It really starts to eat at me.
I really don't want to turn into a power gamer, but with op6 coming up I'm going to try and get the bajoran ship (if mostly to see if I can't trade/sell it for the dominion one) and I also want someone other than the 1% to win our events, yet, I don't want to "do the same tactics" as the winner because If I win using that method I would feel that I've cheated myself.
So, that got me thinking of a list that I will playtest as soon as my battleship comes in, and judge how effective it would be to take to op6 to try and counter the 1% power gamers yet still remain true to myself.
I call it...FUN WITH THE BREEN!
Admiral's Order: United Force (0)
Resource: Hideki Class Attack Fighters (20)
Gor Portas (26)
Gul Dukat (5)
Captured Intelligence (3)
Boheeka (2)
Energy Dissipator (5)
Ship SP: 41
Jem'Hadar Battleship (34)
Weyoun (4)
Ikat'Ika (5)
Breen Aide (2)
Dorsal Weapons Array (3)
Shroud (1)
Ship SP: 49
Total Build SP: 110
The idea behind this is to be able to counter Rainbow lameness/Super tanks while still being able to put up a fight, a long with a few tricks of my own.
The Dissipator is the most undervalued and underused weapon, if because of range 1 limit, but because it's limited to the breen ships, and since most of the Rainbow Coalition run 9-8 captains it would blow it up before it got a chance to use it. I'm hoping with the other two ships in the fleet being the bigger targets, I can manage to go in there, shut down one of their little super tanks/cloakers (because once the token comes on it removes EVERY token on the ship (i think, at least the cloak token) and either finish them off with the battle ship, or just be very annoying with the breen ship while I concentrate firepower on everything else.
With Ikat'ika, any ship that shoots at the battleship will be forced to re-roll all their hits/Crits/Battlestations for as long as I have Weyoun enabled, and Shroud. Effectively 3 uses in a turn if I want to stop an alpha strike on the battle ship.
I'm hoping that this list will be very effective and hopefully will be the turning point to show that not only can pure faction be viable, but that you don't have to be a powergamer to win ships...
This would be easier if they would just release these ships to buy after the op ><
