My vision of Purity.

What? A blog post two days in a row??? WHAT IS THIS MADNESS!!!!!!!

Well, I figured since I have dark eldar on the brain right now, and after reading through a ton of reviews about the new book, that I would make a pure list. What better way to talk about this pure list and my vision for it than a blog post.. with a fantastic little dark elf picture. I also figured out how to get the realspace raiders detachment to work in battlescribe so that made things easier in figuring out what was wrong and what was right.

    That's right, Realspace raiders giving me 6 fast attack slots.. and I'm using them to the letter. Two fliers Two bikes and scourges. The fliers are the troop killing machines. with 2 Disentigrators, a splinter cannon, and 4 large blast str 6 ap 6? missiles, even terminators will fear them.

    For anti tank, I have the scourges with haywire blasters, and the token 3 Ravagers. Sure they got a little nerfed this edition only able to move 6 and fire all 3 lances, but that's still 3 lances per vehicle, and I can choose to deep strike them if needed

    For melee, I have my archon, decked to challenge with a power sword(to strike at initiative of elf) the 2++ and if a titan or something gets froggy a haywire grenade and a soul trap(gaining strength for each unsaved wound done in challenges) he is a murder machine. Plus with two chances on the table of gaining hatred, he would be a monster. With him is of course his token 9 incubi bodyguards. Ap 2 murder machines can just packman through anything, and there's enough bodies to survive charging through cover, although with the archon having an assault grenade it's rather stupid that the squad he's with  doesn't get the benefits of it as well...

    Each of the bikes are also close combat specialists, as well as the scourges. Agonizers are ap3 that are poisoned 4+ with str as user, so str 3 so at least the unit champions will be able to dish out attacks with well timed strikes. with hit and run they can always do damage in combat, then jump out away from the combat and use their incredible jink save to survive.. Speaking of that, I'm not sure if I can use the jink save on the overwatch.. but, with FMCs being able to jink even when they aren't flying I don't see why I couldn't.

    The list is also very thematic. Everything is mobile or with wings, have the ability to deep strike, or move very very fast. It does give you that feel of a raiding party.

    One of these days, I do expect to actually be able to test out some of these lists so I can be sure that I would actually want to start building it up for casual tournament play.

Dark eldar?? What is this blasphemy

 Well, after getting my hands on the new dark eldar book, and battlescribe having updated itself, (although there are still some issues) I've decided to sit down and flesh out what I would like my dark eldar list to be. This also uses a loophole in the rules involving skimmers and deep striking IE rules state that if a skimmer can't be placed due to friendly or enemy models, move it back along the line until it can.

I've always liked a more hands-on approach to my lists and I always loved combat. I always enjoyed the mandrakes in terms of their looks and wanted to incorporate them into a list.

Eldar: Supplement - Iyanden (2013) (Allied Detachment) Selections:

HQ (110pts)

  • Autarch (110pts) (Codex: Eldar (2013) p27)
    Ancient Doom, Battle Focus, Fleet, Forceshield, Independent Character, Path of Strategy
    Fusion gun (10pts), Haywire grenades, Plasma grenades, Shuriken pistol, Soulshrive (30pts)

Elites (135pts)

  • Fire Dragons (135pts) (Codex: Eldar (2013) p34)
    Ancient Doom, Battle Focus, Fleet
    5x Fire Dragon (110pts)
    • Exarch (25pts)
      Firepike (15pts)

Troops (210pts)

  • Dire Avengers (210pts) (Codex: Eldar (2013) p31)
    Ancient Doom, Battle Focus, Counter-attack, Fleet
    5x Dire Avenger (65pts)

      Holo-fields (15pts) (*), Serpent Field, Shuriken cannon (10pts), Twin-linked scatter lasers (5pts)

Heavy Support (140pts)

  • Nightspinner (140pts)
    Doomweaver, Holo-fields (15pts) (*), Spirit stones (10pts) (*), Twin-linked shuriken catapults

    As you can see with this list, I have a lot of short ranged anti tank, but that's dark eldar for you. fast, hit hard and hope that you don't fuck up. the fire dragons steal the empty venom and either deep strike or come onto the field. the two troop units deep strike and unload on an unsuspecting troop or outside of their vehicle.  The archon and Autarch each go with a bodyguard of incubi.*figured splitting them up would not only add an extra venom, but also make it so that my massive murder unit couldn't be locked down by zombies*

    The eldar detachment has the fire dragons for anti tank, and the nightspinner as well. the troops are just 5 dire avengers in a serpent because well, one wave serpent is not cheesy.

    Hopefully I can get a few opinions and tests out with this list before I start trying to buy up all the models.

walking deathstar in 40k

So, after watching some youtube videos from Faeit212 about dark eldar and eldar I've decided to do a more foot dark eldar list for hilariousness. The idea is a walking 4+ ward save wraithblade unit with an archon and eldrad to fortune them up (4 rolls should damn well give me fortune!) It also includes a defense line..

Mech Pirate Dar?

As a note, I am in the works currently on a very informative blog post about the viability of elves and their competitiveness in both the 40k and fantasy environment. Expect that in the upcoming days.

Now I feel Better about myself...

So, I've come up with what I think would be a "make me feel better about myself playing eldar" list. I have no clue how in the world it would work, but it includes a little bit of dark eldar in the mix.

@HQ [ 3 ]

The Avatar of Khaine (205pt.) The Wailing Doom; Fast Shot;

Farseer (115pt.) Witchblade; Shuriken pistol; The Spirit Stone of Anath'lan;

@Troops [ 1 ]

10x - Kabalite Warriors (115pt.) Kabalite armour (x10); Splinter rifle (x8); Splinter cannon; Blaster;

The Warlord is going to be the farseer.. He is going to obviously camp out in the dire avengers squad and just blast things.I gave him the spirit stone so that if I get fortune, I can do double guide as well, or just have that flexibility if after my first roll on fate I get a crap power and take guide, I can roll on the other lists and easily "cast" the two warp charge powers. I have no fear of losing the invuln save as he'll have 10 bodies to roll around and I can play smart with it... I replaced one unit of guardians with a unit of kabalite warriors with a blaster to fullfil the requirement of a troop slot in the allies list, and I put in incubi and the unkillable archon in as my close combat units. Although Scorpions are quite amazing, Incubi do the job a lot better at str 4 with 2 attacks a piece, with ap 2 along with the archon in there to just say I'mma cut you!

I really can not wait to try out this list soon to see if this crazy idea will work. Best part is, I can still play this "good" army, without having to feel like I'm playing the good guys..

Army total-1847/1850

Ok, Instead of putting everything into its own little section like I do in fantasy when doing a list analysis, I'll just group them up down here.

Autarch, archon and incubi are all in one unit. the archon is the challenge person, gaining more strength the more and more he beats up on challenge people.. the autarch is the warlord, and is there to kill things and set units on fire.. because you can't be a good pirate without a little fire.. the incubi are of course the body guards with the AP2 weapons.

Each warlock goes inside the respected 20 man guardian units. They will more and likely take the 5+ cover save or remove the enemies bonuses, but I'll roll depending on opponent. the farseer will also hang out in one of these units and just be a buff patrol, as guardians are like xbowmen and spearmen rolled into one.

The bikes are going to be in reserve until after the opponents fliers have hit the field. they will then zip a de doo da onto objectives and claim/contest them.

The haywire wyches are what I'm going to steal from skaven players, a Wyche dart.  they fly around in the venom assaulting walkers and vehicles that don't have a gazillion people inside, and just claim objectives and just go around and play the "look I'm a target!" game.

The warp spiders will play the role of the shades. maneuvering around the battle field pumping out a ton of shots at things in such angles that they wont get cover saves, and then zip away like a boss.

The heavy support's job is simple.. D cannons eat tanks for breakfast lunch dinner and 4th meal, while the fire prism is a toolbox of shots. the wraithlord is there to play the look I'm a target! as it moves up 6+d6 and shoot all its guns.

you'll notice a distinct lack of anything that has skyfire or any fliers.. The question is, how am I going to deal with fliers? well, a guide on the fire prism can take all my problems away as I can't use the D cannons on fliers because GW is dumb and say that fliers can avoid blast weapons. If they take out the prism in one go, then I'm stuck with star cannons and scatter lasers needing a ton of 6's..

I dunno how well this will work, but it's worth a shot and maybe it'll be effective and fun.. I'll hopefully test it out one of these days in the near future and give an after action report on it.. but for now, back to fantasy :)

How does it work?!? The transposition of a fantasy army concept to 40k.

Your asking yourself wait.. a 40k post in a fantasy centric blog?!? Yup. well as the new eldar codex has been released I've been toying around with how does it effect my dark eldar. I've decided that as a project and to bring more interest into my 40k army that I rarely play nor that I have many models for nor desire to play with only a select group of people, because let's face it, in my area there's not a whole lot of "enjoyable' people who play 40k.

The concept: Transposing my Fantasy Dark Elves into 40k Eldar/Dark Eldar

I'm ready for battle sir!
So, my old Dark eldar/Eldar centric army focused on what I jokingly referred to as the evil pirates. Lots of Gunboats with a small "raiding party" consisting of my General and his group of incubi body guards. The eldar portion came about in 6th edition consisting of a Bikeseer with a group of bike body guards and a warlock to go around to help out and support my inability to roll a 3+ to save my life..

Now, with the introduction of the new 6 edition books from eldar back, I'm noticing in most games that I play that I can't compete even in friendly games due to the nature of my book, it's fragility, and the new stuff in the newer books because GW still hasn't gotten out of the mindset for 40k that "NEW BOOK IS GOOD!!! NO BALANCE!!!!" like they have with fantasy... Yes, I'm still dreading when my new fantasy army book is released in november, but that's besides the point.

The idea of juxtaposing my fantasy army into 40k came about due to me liking how my army plays and seeing if the concept will work in 40k. I know there's no tanks in fantasy (not counting that out of damn place soul grinder in the deamon book) but I would add them to the 40k side if it improves the quality of the performance.

I'll divide the army into 3 sections, Characters, Close combat, and shooting elements and then either put off to the side what I'm thinking of using, or how I'll change the type to deal with all the stuff that's prevailent in 40k vs that in fantasy..
I am shooting for 1850 points in 40k as that seems to be the norm in my area.. It means that elements of my 2400/2500 point fantasy list won't be included but that will be done in the list building phase.

Characters:

Lvl 4:Support character.. -This is where I'm thinking a farseer will work. I generally love the overall support that the character gives to my dark elves and I'm thinking that support will work well over all in the 40k aspect with things like Double guide (twin linking a unit) and other support

cauldron bsb : Support character with fighting potential-  I am thinking some type of Autarch to be the warlord and make him more fighty. His innate support of being able to manipulate the reserves will be an asset as I'm thinking of taking 1-3 fliers, holding small units back etc.

lvl 2: Support character - This is where I'm thinking of putting an "unkillable" archon, as you need 1 hq and 1 troops from your allies to be legal, in its place. this goes away from the support aspect of the character, but it'll give a combat punch and challenge monster that might be better, abiet more expensive than the autarch warlord. that and I can throw him willy nilly into things and not worry about giving up that objective point for my warlord dying.

I am trying to stay away from "special" characters, but if I have to include one in order to make everything else in the army either perform better, or to unlock certain configurations.. I will begrudgingly do so.

Shooting elements: Main Eldar

Repeater Xbows- I've heard that guardians are the 40k equivilent so a unit of them inside of a wave serpent will be included. I do not know how many units of these will be included.

Shades- I hear that warp spiders are their equivalent, so a unit or two will be included.

Bolt throwers- I hear that Vauls weapon batteries are their equivilent and they are somewhat mobile so a unit will be included.

Dark riders- I'm thinking the cheap troop bikes to hold them back until turn 4-5 and then racing them to claim objectives while being a generic nuisance if they managed to come in on an earlier turn.

I do not have anything equivalent to a flier in fantasy, although a peg rider and harpies do come close. I love the idea of them and I want to maximize the autarchs... there's too many similar names -_-... ability to manipulate my reserves.

Poison from the Dark eldar side, either in the form of a gunboat or venom will also be included as even in 40k I am still only str and toughness 3 with no real ability to deal with high toughness

Close combat elements: Dark Eldar

Spearmen: These usually babysit the level 4 as well as serving a minor combat block in case of emergency and I have no clue how they match up to either an eldar unit, or a dark eldar unit, but they are included in this list as they are a combat block in my fantasy army.

Corsairs: These are the hard hitting frenzy units in my fantasy army that are great with support. I am thinking either Wyches from the dark eldar, or something along the lines of striking scorpions from the eldar side

Black guard: I love this unit, and the only equivalent that I see are Incubi. I love incubi, I love the concept of them, and my black guard are murder machines but die in droves.. I plan on including one unit of incubi into the list whether in a small unit form, or a unit of 9 +the archon and throw them into things with no remorse as I do with my black guard.

Hydra:  Wraithlord.. no doubt about it that this guy just screams wraith lord. I know I would like to include at least one into my list, and don't even get me started on the wraith knight, it may be tall but I think that the points would be better spent on a wraith lord, plus it doesn't take up a huge foot print.  Also, my hydra is a big target that takes up a lot of firepower over the course of the game, well as long as im not playing against deamons and their bullshit flaming cannons..

Strengths and weaknesses:

Now, I'm trying to figure out how to deal with tanks and the likes. Ideally I would like to be able to crack open things while still maintaining survivability. Things like a fire prism, Ravager, or even the Dark Eldar flyer can help.

Weakness in the concept is of course fragibility of the army as a whole, and my inability to even notice what's going on in the current 40k meta to even build an army..

If going by % I would like something along the lines of 70% shooting, 30% close combat with the characters included in both aspects of the %.

I will probably consult with the guru of the eldar around here and see if he thinks that my crazy concept of juxtaposition of my fantasy army into something feasable in the 40k enviorment..

Welcome

I've finally settled down and created my very own blog. Bear with me as I try and find the intricacies of this process and once I figure it all out, then I shall get down to what this blog really is about.
