The aftermath of the test

So, I was going to not only make a youtube battle report on this game, but both myself and my opponent forgot to take pictures, and I don't know how the hell to use this battle scribe program so no pictures.. So, I'll be describing the board the best of my abilities.

For my list see my last blog post.

My opponent was greenskins.

Greenskin spells:
lvl 4: Hand of gork, Foot of gork, two other spells that I don't know
lvl 2: Ichy nuscense, another spells

My spells:
lvl 4: Mindrazer, Enfeebling foe, Withering, Miasma
lvl 2: Fireball, Flaming sword.

Deployment:

7 Spider riders- Pump wagon-Mangler- 7 trolls- Horde of 30 something night goblins with black orc general, bsb, 2 goblin heros with great weapon, goblin hero with shield - 7 spider riders- Chariot-Chariot- Mangler- 20 something night goblins with fanatics, and lvl 2 goblin.

So, that should give a general idea of the inital set up. note that entire blob in the orc deployment is all in a straight line even tho it took a paragraph to describe.

Vanguard moves: Both dark riders move infront of the spearmen block in a zig zag formation

Orcs turn 1:  the horde and the spider rider both fail animosity, the spiders get a move and have to charge. the black orc just beats the fuck out of his unit for a couple of wounds. In the charges the spiders charge my dark riders who elect to stand and shoot taking two out in the volley.  the entire horde advance forward..

Magic saw the spiders near the sorcerers portal get wild formed. Ichy nuscence goes off on my shades reducing their movement and imitative to 1. Then, the fun begins.. Foot of gork goes off on the big version.. He stomps a bit onto the second dark rider unit, killing 2 of them, then wanders off, causing a wound to the level 2 in the process with the miscast.

Shooting: Doom diver 1 blows up, both rocks hit my spearmen unit and take off in total 6 spearmen. the other doom diver veers off.

Close combat: my dark riders manage to kill a couple of spiders before breaking from combat and running through my spearmen who passed panic and stopped 1 inch away from the edge of the board.


Dark Elves Turn 1:
5+ ward goes onto the spearmen to deter another damn volly of rocks from falling on their heads. shades inch back to get into the woods some more to try and stop some damn fanatics and hope that the pump wagon fails its test. everything else stays put... almost dwarven/wood elf like! The fleeing horses rally and go in a conga line. the harpies move to the far right to try and move after the fanatics had been deployed.

Magic: Withering goes off on the right most pump wagon, and the double fireballs got stopped.

Shooting: the repeater block manage to put two wounds on the right most manger. the shades and one bolt thrower take out the right most pump wagon, and the other one takes out the other pump wagon.

Orcs turn 2:

No animosity issues, and everything advances forward. The manger stops right infront of my repeaters, and the second mangler stops infront of the trolls. the spiders move up behind the portal. the chariots charge my cold one knight unit, having only one of them make it into combat.

Magic: ANOTHER foot goes off irresistibly picking on my repeater unit causing a couple of wounds and passing the panic test..the foot then decides to stomp again and I chose his horde to try and do some wounds.  in the backlash the level 2 blows itself up.. Yet again the level 4 isn't wounded.

Shooting saw rocks being dropped onto both the black guard unit causing a few casualties. the doom diver misses completely.

Combat saw two cold ones die to impact hits, but cause two wounds to the chariot in return and ends up being a true push, because I didn't have the 8 damn points for a musician....

Dark Elves turn 2:

Movement saw the dark riders move behind the repeaters and the shades turning to face one of the chariots.

Magic: Withering goes off again on one of the manglers after another double fireball gets stopped (proof that ruby ring is kiiinda nice)

shooting saw the destruction of a couple of spiders from the block that had charged my dark riders as well as the destruction of the closest mangler, and the chariot takes no wounds cause my shades loaded the fucking nerf darts for this game... The second bolt thrower puts two wounds on the other mangler.

Close combat saw me finishing off the chariot and holding.

Orcs turn 3:

No animosity issues for the orcs as the second chariot comes crashing into the cold ones as well as the goblin block coming into the shades in the woods, releasing the fanatics in such a way to block stuff. everything else moves forward as well as the spiders raring to try and make an advancement towards my bolt thrower brigade. the other mangler move infront of the repeater block.

Magic: Holy ballsack this phase hurt!!!!  I used all my dice stopping all the other spell attempts and Yet again, a huge foot goes off irresistably.. Why the hell do I even take a damn scroll on my level 2????  The casualty list included the rest of my repeater unit, a wound on my level 2 and two wounds on a troll... in the backlash, 11 goblins die, and gork was apparently mad at the lvl 4 shaman sucking him into the void.

Shooting: Doom diver misfires, and two rocks get dropped onto my black guards head, where I find out that I was a dumb ass and didn't put an ironcurse icon on my unit champ in this version of the list...... so a handful of blackguard die.

Close combat was a pillow fight between the knights and the chariot. the feared goblins cause one wound to the shades, win combat, but since im skirmishers in a woods I was stubborn and stuck after killing 2 goblins, failing my test to reform.

Dark Elves turn 3:

Movement saw the dark riders move around the mangler and face it to try and shoot it off. the harpies fly forward now that the fanatics are done and get into a position to charge one of the rock lobbas next turn. 5+ ward yet again goes on the spearmen.

Magic: Fireball goes off finally on the mangler killing it.. causing my dark riders to stand around and go why the fuck did we even come out here.. and movement goes off on the trolls irresistibly only causing 2 spearmen wounds in the backlash thanks to the ward save. Both mindrazer and flaming sword go on the spearmen block.

Shooting saw one bolt thrower open up onto the spider riders, causing enough wounds to make a panic test and they fail being 2" out of the generals aura! they then book it towards their table edge. 

Close combat saw the death of one knight, but breaking the chariot causing it to run. The pursuit move only moves me up a smidge.. The knight gobbos, who were scared of my elves, decided to run them down after me boxcaring my stubborn 8 check..

Orcs turn 4:
no animosity issues, and the chariot fails to rally but only moves up a smidge. the trolls fail a charge into my black guard. everything else moves up including the goblin bus.

Shooting saw one rock scatter away from my bolt throwers and the other causing minimal casualties on my spearmen.

Dark Elves turn 4:
+1 attack goes onto the black guard and I say fuck it. They charge into the trolls. the level 2 continues her retreat towards the safety of behind the spearmen block and the dark riders move into a position to charge the rock lobba next turn.. I forget to charge the other rock lobba with my harpies like a boss.. the cold ones manage to wipe out the fleeing chariot.

Magic saw the trolls get -2 to their strength, and me failing to cast flaming sword by 1...

shooting: The repeaters finished off the spiders who had rallied, as well as taking the other unit of spiders to just one.. Fracking volly fire is just amazing!

Close combat saw two full trolls go down and 2 wounds put on another. the return damage was only 1 dead black guard. I manage to win combat, and have more ranks than the trolls and run them down! the overrun caused me to run into the horde.. *GULP*

Orcs turn 5:

Night goblins fail animosity and do nothing.. and the fanatics blow themself up. the lone spider charges into my wounded fire mage.

Shooting saw both rocks miss the bolt throwers and the doom diver finishes off the two knights.

Close combat.. and here's the phrase of the night.. "It's almost like I'm fighting damn brettonians!!"
So, goblins aint skurred, and I get netted. End combat saw both the great weapon heros go down, and a handful of goblins, and 7 black guard die. I win combat but the horde sticks on steadfast.

The fire mage.. in her heroic act finishes off the spider with her one attack.. She's getting something special!

Dark Elves turn 5:

Dark riders and harpies charge their respected war machines. with +1 attack continuing on the black guard.

Magic saw the fire mage, after heroically killing the spider, blow herself up after casting flaming sword on the black guard.. and the str of the horde down 2.

Shooting saw the bolt throwers shoot off a few more goblins and they panic and run!

Close combat saw me finally killing all the goblin hero's and doing more wounds onto the unit. The return volly leaves me with just the standard and champion as well as the general. I lose, BY MUSICIAN! but stubborn 10 with a reroll and I stick.

Orcs turn 6:

The night goblin bus fails to rally and runs off the board.

Shooting saw the doom diver miss completely on shooting my bolt thrower.

Combat saw me winning with no wounds caused by the goblin horde.. str 1 vs t3 is kiiinda nice.

Dark elves turn 6:

The dark riders charge into the doom diver. the harpies just stand around and go herp de durp. The spearmen decide to go claim a table quadrent.

Magic saw -1 toughness and -1 to all the hordes Miasma stats. and the str debuff get dispelled.

Close combat saw the destruction of the black guard, but the general sticks around. the dark riders end up destroying the doom diver.

END OF THE GAME:
Victory to the Dark Elves.  Using normal book scoring I ended up scoring a massacre victory due to points.  Using buckeye battle scoring I ended up getting like a 16-5 win. Don't know exactly how that works but eh, I'm not going I'm just helping out the people going in deciding on their lists.

Ending thoughts:
Holy bolt throwers batman! They were on fire. I never once used the single bolt but I managed to always hit and wound statistically and they were amazing.. plus the fact that they were a target that my opponent had to take care of helped me out tremendously.. oh and one bolt thrower got speed of  light cast on him twice as well as wildform! Thanks random sorcerers portal! They are staying!

The cold one knights.. They work, but a hydra would have been better.. therefor in other 2400 point lists they will be taken out and replaced with a hydra. 2500 point tho, I might try and squeeze in either another unit like corsairs, now that I have the cauldron to actually make them useful, or flesh them out to 6-8 strong.

The cauldron, the one item I've shyed away from to not be "that guy" is going to be a permanent addition. the versatility it adds in it's buffs is just too good to pass up. having 3 attack black guard were just amazing, and that ward save saved more spearmen than anything. plus it wasn't targeted at all due to every other unit being a bigger threat.
